Racial Appendices In Vahevia, there exist a number of civizilized creatures, each with unique cultures, personalities and varying relationships between each other. Yet the term "race" is a subjective one open to much philosophical debate. What constitutes to a creature classifying as a "race", with others being labelled as "monsters" or "animals"? Some races, like the galagi and selynah, have rich, cultural traditions dating back to and far beyond the earliest records of known history. Other species, like the hideous crovalahn, are so disgusting and vile in their abuse of living creatures that they'd only classify as a "civilized race" in the most literal sense of the word. They behave like blackhearted monsters and savage predators then any 'cultured' folk, yet their intricate doctrines and complicated religion are the mark of what many deem "an advanced civilization". At best, theologians and socialogists have best described a "race" as any species which "collectively establishes a relationship between itself and others of a similar mindset." Crovalahn : As Vahevia's greatest predator, the Crovalahn are easily the most powerful, depraved and frightening of all socialised organisms. Their brutal and nightmarish culture revolves around fanatical worship of a mysterious being whose many doctrines ordain the genocide of weaker species. The Crovalahn mindset is the most painfully alien of any life-form's, and anything we've learned from their terrifying species has been observation and speculation, at best. Humanity : Of all civilized organisms, our race is perhaps the least unified. With our countless civil wars, in-fighting and struggles over land, resources, wealth, religion and personal prejudices, mankind is as much a threat to himself as anything else. Despite our cultural and ethical differences, humanity possesses enough unity to ally against common threats, most notably the despicable crovalahn. Our settlements vary from villages to massive city-states, but all are invariably reinforced and protected against threats... from both the outside and inside. Selynah : These tremendously-powerful and inherently peaceful giants have forever been humanity's closest allies, serving as both friends and valuable comrades. While their humble minds are slow, their willpower, virtues and wisdom are undeniable. Their altrurism belies their nightmarishly hideous appearance, making it clear that appearances can be very decieving. While the massive giants are intrinsically non-violent, they are far from pacifists... as any soldier who's witnessed selynah armies ploughing through enemy ranks would tell you. Galagi : Nomadic creatures with hedonistic lifestyles, the galagi are welcomed nearly everywhere for their art, poetry, quick-witted humour. Aside from their charismatic and generally friendly natures, we admit to knowing little about the galagi's traditions, histories and customs; all of which they rarely share with outsiders. While these artistic creatures are everybody's friend, they are nobody's ally; welcomed, but rarely trusted. Their survival amidst the hostile wilderness is gained by their aptitude with light weaponry, unmatched skill at working with poisons, and their own spiritual connections with nature. |
