Clubs Sometimes the simplest of weapons can often be the most effective. As the most diverse and simplistic of weapons, clubs range from anything between broken table legs, sturdy tree branches, to enormous iron shafts clad with reinforced, smashing surfaces. While a club is obviously outmatched in power by most other melee weapons, a good smashing weapon can be deadly enough in the grip of a strong warrior. Many cudgels constructed for long-term use are supplemented with sharp spikes protruding from the hitting surface, to inflict both brutal penetration and crushing force to a club’s blows. Even less distinguished clubs, particularly those improvised from wooden planks or tree branches, can have their impact augmented by hammering nails through the cudgel’s wood. Composition While the materials used to fashion clubs range enormously in variation and scope, the cheapest and most easily-attained substance used to built cudgels is wood… be it a solid wooden bat, or a broken tree branch swung about in desperation. Many clubs are capped with reinforced metal plating, to add both impact and durability. Even a thick shoot of bamboo can be swung about to pummel opponents, although flexible materials tend to lack the force of harder materials, such as stone or iron. Selynah are renowned for carrying tremendous iron clubs into mass combat, each arm cradling an enormous cudgel that would be beyond the lifting capacity of any smaller creature. Iron and stone clubs, whilst much more powerful then their wooden counterparts, are extremely heavy, and only a particularly athletic person could wield one effectively. This makes heavier clubs more durable, but they transcend the cudgel’s ease-of-use that makes clubs as a whole such popular and cheap weaponry. |
