Chinbar An Aylandran weapon, the chinbar is a tremendous cudgel forged into a graceful “S”-like structure, with a pair of heavy pseudopods weighted on either end. A chinbar is gripped with both hands positioned halfway along each of the weapon’s curves, and is traditionally held diagonally across a wearer’s middle-line. As this enormous weapon is native to the selynah’s culture, chinbars are typically beyond any smaller creature’s ability to heft in combat, but smaller varieties have been implemented by other species who favour the chinbar’s power and grace. Use and techniques These crushing weapons are equally suited for both offence and defence, with the elegant curves flawlessly deflecting an opponent’s weapon in combat, blades sliding off the smooth glass. Skilled combatants are able to land smashing blows with one of the chinbar’s pseudopods, and use the other to deflect an incoming attack. Selynah are invariably proficient with the chinbar’s use, and their culture teaches the techniques of their people’s native weapon from an early age. Among other races, only humans are generally seen carrying smaller, cruder variants of the selynah’s giant weapons… although galagi have also been known to take a liking to the chinbar’s use. Composition Chinbars forged by selynah are generally fashioned from an odd type of amber-coloured glass, lustrous and beautiful, yet remarkably strong. As with most things native to their culture, the selynah take pride in their craftsmanship, often studding the curves of chinbars with jewels, precious metals and stones so the weapon’s beauty compliments its power. Variants that’ve been forged for a smaller creature’s use are generally curved iron rods, weighted with heavy metal orbs on either end (which are sometimes sheathed in sharp spikes for added impact). The secrets of refining the selynah’s unique topaz-like glass have only ever been shared with the smiths of our people, who are occasionally taught to blow the glass into weapons and armour by the Aylandrans themselves. |
