Casavado Pronunciation: “Cass-ah-vardo” Plural: “Casavado” The lightweight casavado is a galagi weapon, originating from their more recent traditions and largely considered their racial weapon. The weapon’s simplistic design consists of an arched blade fixed upon a short wooden handle, swept into an elegant curve like a crescent moon. Casavado are seldom longer then five-inches in length, and are almost weightless. Galagi traditionally wield their native weapons in pairs, employing advanced dual-wielding techniques that utilise the curved blade’s capability to perform flawless disarm techniques. Deadly toxins are often applied by galagi to the blade’s edge, tainting a ruptured bloodstream with the debilitating poisons with every swift strike. While warriors of other races are occasionally encountered wielding a casavado, the blade’s use is extremely exacting, and specific techniques must be mastered for the elegant weapon to be used properly. Composition Generally, casavado blades are crafted from superbly smooth iron, perfectly weighted and balanced on either curve to optimise both motion and power. As with all artisans of their race, galagi smiths take great pride in their craft, often studding casavadoes with gems and precious metals, and adorning them with scented wildflowers and banksias. Some casavado blades are chiselled from intricately-faceted diamond, which is both lustrous, dangerously sharp, and presumed unbreakable. Casavado fashioned by other races are less wondrous, with cruder, weightier blades that’re often too one-edged to be wielded with the casavado’s traditional techniques. Miraculously, the iron that galagi craftspeople use to build the weapon’s blade seems impervious to rust, and are even resistant to the oxidization of a skray’s saliva. This unusual property makes it an object of both wonder and highly-esteemed value amidst human blacksmiths and skray hunters. But only the galagi know their closely-guarded secret of making their iron weapons impermeable to corrosion. |
