Weapons and Equipment [ Weapons | Armour ] Of all the defining elements of Vahevia, none are as difficult for newcomers to accomodate then the entirely new weapon sets, alien equipment, and strange armours that've replaced the "standard" weapons (e.g., swords, axes, bows, et cetera). This section isn't just limited to describing Vahevia's weapons, but rather all the equipment and utensils that're both adventuring gear and commonplace utilities. It's worth going into considerable detail when describing even the most standard equipment (such as bedrolls, to use a general example), as each of them are vastly different from their real-world or traditional fantasy counterparts. And doing this shall hopefully show how enormously different Vahevian equipment, weapons and armour really is from the traditional fantasy norm. As a whole, Vahevian equipment tends to be very "naturalistic", with armour and weapons fashioned from organic materials that still somehow maintain their organic flair, even when processed and refined. For example, a shaki's handle might be built together from sturdy bamboo, but this doesn't make it any less stable then a shaki's handle chiselled from granite. Both are equally strong, and both still maintain that "organic" feel, even if heavily processed. That's basically the defining flavour of Vahevian equipment in a nutshell. Considering the need for fleshing out everything from everyday supplies to a military's weaponry, it's going to be difficult at best to try describing each individual item in a consistant manner. There's no sense in detailing human cutlery and table manners straight after you've finished writing about biological armour, so expect a pretty in-depth and diverse listing of Vahevian equipment... including weapons and armour (which're are things that've changed from the generic fantasy stereotype that're most important), and commonplace adventuring tools. Often, I'll include an "in-game" description for such items that could be employed during a gaming session to help players get a good mental image of the way Vahevian equipment is implemented... Running your hands down a "smooth, resinous rope woven from firmly knotted hemp that still bleeds freshly-drawn tree sap" is a lot more interesting then say "slinging a 50-foot rope over your shoulder." Needless to say, don't *ever* overdo descriptions this way! (As you could imagine, this applies with everything, not just Vahevia!) Once players have been familiarised with the organic natures, appearances, etc, of Vahevian equipment, that's it. Nothing more needs to be described, and anything else is just tautologous. |
